The Denny Awards International Competition for Electronic Music
Dr. Dennis Law was the founder and chairman of the annual Denny Awards International Competition for Electronic Music starting in 2018.
The purpose of the Denny Awards competition is to inspire a new generation of composers and musical artists to utilize digital technologies to enhance the creation of music in order to achieve unprecedented impact on all audiences.
The Denny Awards competition was held in Denver in conjunction with the Denver International Festival of Arts & Technology until 2020 when the Covid pandemic forced a change of venue to Beijing, China.
Despite the Covid pandemic, students and teachers in China were so enthusiastic about the competition that they were willing to overcome all obstacles to continue to hold the events. In 2021, the Denny Awards competition was reinstated in Beijing and garnered a viewing online streaming audience of 650,000 during the finals of the competition.
From its very inception, the Denny Awards had put its primary focus on US-China cooperation in music creation. In lieu of the overwhelming enthusiasm among Chinese students, teachers and all music educational institutions, the decision has been made to make China the primary competition site for the time being.
The 2022 Denny Awards Competition will be held in November and December in Beijing under the direction of Zhou Jiaojiao, its Music Director.
